What is Therapy Like? Bay Area Therapy

  • Each therapy session starts with a brief check-in to discuss your week and reflect on our previous sessions.

This allows you to set the direction for the day's session, focusing on either past topics or new events that occurred during the week.

We employ therapeutic interventions designed to help you gain deeper insights, foster healing, and process your thoughts and feelings. Although each session may differ based on your immediate needs and goals, every session is purposefully structured to work towards achieving your overall therapeutic objectives.

We work deeply and get to the underlying issues that are preventing you from living your best life.

Each session is a 50-minute therapy session designed to go deep into the issues that are coming up in your life.

  • Therapy is done on a weekly frequency. This is to ensure that we get the best experience and outcomes possible.

I do not conduct therapy on a biweekly or monthly basis as consistency in therapy ensures the highest quality of therapy.

  • Introduction and Discussion: We'll begin by discussing what has brought you to therapy. This is your opportunity to share any concerns or challenges you're facing, and I'll be here to listen and understand your needs.

Setting Goals: Together, we'll develop clear goals and objectives for your therapy. This involves exploring what you hope to achieve and envisioning what your life could look like by the end of our sessions. Setting these targets early helps guide our journey and ensures we are aligned in our efforts.

Understanding the Therapy Process: We'll discuss the overall therapy process, including how we'll approach achieving your goals. I'll explain the methods we might use, and we'll talk about the concept of therapy termination—what it means and when it might occur.

  • Research shows that people achieve better results with weekly therapy. Weekly sessions allow for deep, transformative work on core issues. With less frequent sessions, there's a risk of shifting focus to crisis management or just catching up on events, rather than doing the deeper work that brings lasting change.

Therapy is an investment, and it's common to think that stretching out sessions to biweekly or monthly might be more budget-friendly. But doing less frequent sessions leaves clients the risk of being stuck and not making progress.

  • Therapy with me typically spans about one to two years (52+ sessions).

This duration is intentional, focusing on deep, long-term work.

First, establishing a strong rapport and understanding you deeply is a cornerstone of effective therapy, especially for those dealing with interpersonal issues or complex trauma, this does take time.

The long-term approach is also valuable because it allows me to witness your progress through different seasons of the year. Often, therapy can end when a crisis seems resolved, but without addressing the deeper problems that triggered it. This pattern can lead to a cycle of short-term fixes without real change.

Instead of just crisis management and going in and out of therapy, think of these one or 2 years of therapy as a dedicated season in your life where you are focused on your growth and healing as a person.

The best type of work I do involves, a deep commitment from my clients who want long term, and sustained healing and growth. Therefore, I do not work with clients that only want to do short term or crisis oriented therapy.

  • We end therapy when you meet all your goals and outcomes. If you don’t know what those are, we will talk about them in our first session, and review them throughout therapy. Remember you are not in therapy forever.

And when I say goals and outcomes…

I am not talking about just “I feel better” or “I think I’m fine.”

I’m talking about awesome, kickass outcomes where you are thriving and enjoying life.

We will define what those are in therapy and give you a clear picture of when you are ready to end therapy. Once you meet your goals, we will go through a termination process.

  • Yes! I do telehealth, or virtual therapy over an online video platform.

  • In my Bay Area Therapy Practice, each therapy session is around 50 minutes long.

  • Cancelations or reschedules must be made 48 hours ahead of appointment. If a cancellation/reschedule occurs ahead of 48 hours, you are free to reschedule if you would like.

Sessions that are canceled or rescheduled less than 48 hours prior to session will be charged at the full fee. Sessions that start late are also charged at the full 50 minute fee.

    Emergency Cancellations

I understand that life happens and emergencies occur. If those occur you are free to reschedule with me on the same week given my availability. Late cancellations that occur because of non-emergency reasons cannot be rescheduled and client will be charged the full fee.

The definition of what qualifies as an emergency is at my discretion. Most common instances are vehicle accidents, death or hospitalization of loved ones, or illness qualify as an emergency.

Common issues such as work obligations, family needs, forgetfulness, or general busyness do not qualify.

Please contact me if you need to cancel your session or have any questions.
